Gizmodo is reporting the first commercially available (60 Australian dollars) software SIM unlock for the iPhone.
One caveat seems to be that the unlock only works if your SIM card does not have a PIN lock.
I'll be following up to see if this is legit or not.
Update: Seems to be legit. I'd hold back on going the commercial route as a free unlock might just be around the corner.

Actually, you're a little slow on news despite this being a blog dedicated to iPhone unlocking. The guys at the iPhone Dev team has already come out with the free solution. Right now, they're distributing copies of iUnlock via their site and other sites like Gizmodo since their site is overloading.

Agreed a little slow there ;-) Hey the blog might be dedicated to unlocking the iPhone, but my life sure isn't :-) I *did* say I thought a free unlock was likely.
I bought the iPhone unlock solution from this website and it worked fine http://www.iphoneunlocktoday.com and it also came with support. good blog you got here.
I have unlocked my iphoe successfully!
