Belgium doesn't allow networks to sell locked handsets
Know of any other countries where this is the case? Please feel free to comment.
Update 11 July 2008: OK, The Register and Wired have the story 1 year after you saw it here ;-)
A blog dedicated to how to get the iPhone unlocked and SIM-free

Singapore is another. Also, there are many other countries where, although not illegal for carriers to lock their phones, have laws whereby the carriers are obliged to unlock the phones on request. eg, France
Belgium definitly has, sadly enough. Let's hope there are a lot of other countries as well as the Belgian market share may be too insignificant for Apple to care. If I'm right Australia and Italy also have some kind of regulation that prohibits this, not sure though. In Belgium it's called "koppelverkoop" where these companies can't subsidize one another.
Small update about he anonymous poster above.. In Belgium it is called "Combined Sale" which is forbidden. It can be translated in french as "Vente Combinée" and in Flamish as what he said...
The iphone is coming to belgium:

It will be a Mobistar exclusive.
I don't know if it will be locked, but I'm definitely not buying locked/disabled crap.
this is however a comment to an old post...
